Autumn Gathering Raffle Quilt

Posted by Lisa Teichmann on September 15, 2011 at September 15

The raffle quilt that our guild has stitched this year was a group effort that began with a focus fabric. Each member that participated was given a piece of focus fabric and asked to make either a 12” block, a 9” block, two 6” blocks, or three 3” blocks by using any of their own fabrics that coordinated with the fabric they were given.

All of these blocks were then turned over to another member that volunteered many hours of her time in designing the layout as well as piecing the center background and framework around the center block. She also spent many hours laying out and piecing the outside border with its subtle gradations of color moving from light to dark as it comes to the outside border.

The quilt was then generously quilted by one of our members before being turned over to another member who put the binding and a sleeve on and finally the label was made and attached by another member. Also addition contributions were used to create a band on a coordinating pillow case to go with the quilt.

So the name of our raffle quilt this year is “Autumn Gathering” which aptly describes the gathering of fabrics, patterns, minds, and hands all coming together to produce this stunning quilt.

This quilt was raffled off on November 17th, 2011 after it was displayed at a couple of our local area venues. The funds raised will be used to further promote and teach the art of quilting in our guild, to support our efforts in the making and giving of quilts to local charities we choose and to help support the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, MA.

Congratulations go to Jeannine Rigney of Amherst NH who won the quilt!
